Aims & Activities
Established in 2005, Esther Community Enterprise is a highly worthwhile third sector organisation, run on an entirely voluntary basis, serving the homeless and other socially excluded people in London and the UK. "Giving Purpose to Surplus" is our mission statement. We aim to meet those who have needs in the local community by redistribution of food and other consumables donated from retailers. ECE makes a worthwhile collective response to the 3 tenets of sustainable development, namely social, economical and environmental needs. There are few projects that succeed in this holistic quest.
Inspired by the biblical story of the daily collection of food (manna), June Ross approached food retailers who were throwing away good food that could be eaten, into landfill sites. Having experienced those in need in her employment within social services, June believed a difference could be made, by redirecting food to those who would benefit from it.
