Aims & Activities
DearHope is the UK's only sign-based service to help Deaf people who suffer from domestic abuse. When sign language is the main way you communicate, it can be very hard to get help. Our staff are trained in International sign and are experienced in communicating with Deaf clients who are from overseas where neither English or BSL is their first language or a language they know very well.
We offer support and advice through our IDVAs, children and families workser, Young DeafHope team and through signposting. DeafHope now covers London, Kent and Sussex. We will shortly be updating leaflets and posters to reflect the changes of our services to also cater to men- so not only Deaf women and children but now Deaf people.
We also have our Young DeafHope branch who work with schools and after-school/holiday clubs. The aim of YDH is as a preventative program to educate young people about issues as domestic abuse, cyber bullying, sexting, sexual consent, healthy relationships and many more. We are an organisation that supports all genders, sexualities and religions.
