Head Space delivers college-based counselling support through one-to-one and group interventions, alongside education and training around mental health and suicide prevention. Delivered in partnership with Centre of Change and Aspire2B.

Recent surveys conducted by our partners with young people highlighted just how needed this support is. While there is good general awareness of mental health, 78% of young people reported they would not know where to go in the community for specialist mental health or wellbeing support. A majority (80%) said they would benefit from discussing issues within a peer group, and 86% felt they would benefit from speaking to a professional about their worries. Worryingly, 42% shared that in the past year they had experienced thoughts that life might not be worth living.

Through the program, young people will access counselling support and safe spaces to explore their concerns. They’ll learn healthy coping mechanisms, understand the importance of self-care and gain confidence in recognizing signs of common mental health challenges such as anxiety and depression, both in themselves and in their peers. They will be encouraged away from unsafe or harmful activities, supported in making healthier choices and given clear guidance on the community support available to them.

Those taking part in the training opportunities may also gain nationally recognized qualifications, strengthening their CVs and improving future employment prospects. By the end of the program, young people will feel more connected, more supported and more able to access the right help when they need it.
