Our tea parties are monthly social gatherings for people aged 75 and over who are feeling lonely, isolated or in need of companionship. They’re a chance to enjoy conversation, laughter, tea and cake with a small group of older guests and friendly volunteers.
Each month, usually on a Sunday afternoon, a volunteer driver will collect and drive you to a local tea party, which are usually hosted in a volunteer’s home or a community space. After the event, you’ll be driven safely back home again.
Who can join
This free service is open to anyone aged 75+ who would benefit from some company. To take part, guests will need to:
Be able to get in and out of a car (with a helping hand)
Manage a few steps into a host’s home or community space
Be able to use the bathroom independently
You’ll never be asked to host a tea party yourself, and there’s no cost to join.
How Tea parties works
Once a month...
Normally on a Sunday afternoon, each group's volunteer drivers will go and collect our older guests (that is you) to take them to a volunteer host’s home.
There, they meet with the rest of the group for tea, cake and companionship.
Why Sundays?
It's because we know this can be a lonely time of the week. Many of our volunteers also work during the week so Sundays are the perfect time for most groups.
Volunteers host most of the events in their houses, providing a warm, welcoming environment. Many groups do sometimes meet in other venues too, like community halls, hotels, museums and even the odd fire station!
