Croydon Town centre Outreach

Project 4 Youth Empowerment

Following the 2023 pilot project where we successfully engaged young people in the hotspot areas of Croydon Town Centre, P4YE is proposing to conduct Outreach in the town centre.

We propose to engage young people, many of whom are known to the YJS, police or social services and are deemed vulnerable and high-risk young people. We appreciate there is still a need for intervention and we believe that with our presence last year, the town centre was a safer place for other young people to travel to or walk through on their way to their chosen destinations.

With the funding we will continue to carry out detached outreach work for 26 weeks during term times, aimed at diverting young people away from hotspots in the town centre and into safe spaces and venues where they can engage in positive activities.

We intend to engage young people to deter them from engaging in anti-social behaviour and reduce instances of criminality or victimisation.

The project will include signposting young people into group activities, education, employment and 1:1 mentoring with those identified as vulnerable and in need of a higher level of support for example, those at risk of exploitation into gang affiliation and criminal activity or those already involved.
