Every Sunday Fishers Christian Centre has provided a free Caribbean dinner at the Socco Cheta Community Hub, located on Portland Road in South Norwood, SE25 4PQ from 1.00pm to 2.30pm and 4.00pm to 4.45pm.
The meal's objective is to interact with the neighbourhood, supporting those who experience food insecurity in particular and directing anyone in need to nearby resources like counselling.
We believe that providing this service offers numerous benefits for both the church and the community.
Providing a free lunch, can make it possible for those who experience food insecurity to at the very least have a full Sunday dinner, For some people, sharing a meal with others can foster a sense of community and belonging. A communal meal presents a chance to foster inclusiveness, engage in conversation, mingle and build bonds with diverse communities.
Offering a consistent, dependable service-like a free Sunday meal every week-builds rapport and confidence. It proves that the church actively works to uphold and is concerned about the welfare of the neighbourhood.
As a church, serving others is a fundamental aspect of our spiritual mission and providing a free meal amongst other services aligns with our mission and allows members of the congregation to live out their faith in a tangible way.
