We are looking for reliable volunteers who are enthusiastic about reading and connecting with people, and keen to interact with others with kindness and empathy, to train as Reader Leaders to lead our Shared Reading groups across different settings in Croydon. Shared Reading is a powerful group experience that brings literature to life, where a group of people – one of them a trained Reader Leader – meet, usually weekly, to read aloud and share their thoughts, feelings and reflections. The volunteers receive a transformative training delivered in weekly four-hour sessions over six weeks. Following the training, they will start leading the groups with our support, which will be ongoing throughout their volunteering journey.
The volunteers will need to commit to completing the training as well as preparing and leading weekly Shared Reading sessions. The Reader provides a large selection of texts and ongoing support with a dedicated support team.
